This year's BookExpo in Chicago seems to have been rather a disappointment. The amount of exhibitor floor space was down by 20% to 25% and the Digital Zone was especially empty. As Publishers Lunch put it, "The ever-diminishing ‘digital discovery zone' is rather unpopulated and undiscovered, making it perhaps the saddest place on the floor."  Read more

The largest annual book trade fair in the United States, the biggest book fair in the US, seems to have been the usual heady mixture of author breakfasts, panel discussions and bookselling. Booksellers are wooed by publishers and do the rounds collecting large numbers of early proof copies of the big fall books.  Read more

This weekend the 2003 Book Expo (BEABookExpo America, commonly referred to within the book publishing industry as BEA. The largest annual book trade fair in the United States) convention in Los Angeles has brought together American publishers and booksellers with a contingent representing the rest of the world. Numbers appear to be steady in relation to last year, although the west coast venue always attracts fewer Europeans and more participants from Hollywood.   Read more
