--New Playwrights’ Networksearch for term
Set up in the 1970s to promote the best work from new writers. Highly successful plays from the likes of John Waterhouse, Jack Booth, Don Carroll and John Reason are popular at festivals and as staples of amateur productions throughout the year.
National Academy of Writingsearch for term
Major new initiative to establish a national academy in the UK. More than 100 established writer patrons support its aims and will be visiting the Academy to help deliver the programme. Applicants for the one year vocational course will have to submit a portfolio of writing. www.writingacademy.org
National Association for Literature Developmentsearch for term

The professional body for all those involved in developing writers, readers and literature audiences in the UK. The organisation focuses on professional development and training and supports individuals involved in literature development.There's a mass of other useful information on the site at www.nald.org

National Association of Writers in Educationsearch for term

A professional association supporting creative writing of all genres and in all educational settings throughout the UK. They support writers in education, in universities and in the community, and have useful resources, training and job opportunities plus the Artscape directory. www.nawe.co.uk

National Extension Collegesearch for term

Non profit-making UK educational charity which is dedicated to widening access to education for adults through distance learning. Courses cover Creative Writing, Writing Short Stories and Writing for Money. www.nec.ac.uk

National Library of New Zealandsearch for term

National Literacy Trustsearch for term
UK-based organisation which has campaigned since 1993 to improve literacy standards across all age groups. New Theatre Publicationssearch for term

New concept in theatre publishing - a publishing company that is owned and managed by writers. The Playwrights’ Co-operative is a not-for-profit organisation whose aims are to cut out the middle-men and profit-makers from the world of theatre publishing and give individual playwrights the opportunity to take greater control and responsibility in the marketing of their work with all the benefits that full publication brings.

On this site you'll find our full catalogue of theatre play scripts plus details of the playwrights and authors. If you're a member of a professional or amateur theatre group or dramatic society you can order acting editions of play scripts and if you decide to stage a production you can arrange performing licenses by email or regular mail.

Annual award established in 2002 with the aim of liberating established writers who live in the region from work other than writing. Applicants must have at least two books published by a recognised publisher and must live in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham or Teesside. Closing date November. The first winner of the award in 2002 was poet, Anne Stevenson.
