Q&A: bestselling novelist Clare Mackintosh

It's been nine years since you published your debut novel, I Let You Go. How do you think publishing has changed since then?

When I Let You Go came out, the 'new wave' of psychological thrillers was still relatively small. Now the market is really crowded and it's hard for books to stand out. There's tremendous pressure to write books that are high concept, or have unique twists. I try not to worry too much about what other authors are writing, and just focus on what's in my control.
