David Fickling Books has recently gone independent and didn't have a stand at the Fair, but David was doing a good job as a publisher at large, roaming the aisles with Simon Mason, his Managing Director, and Caro Fickling, who is MD of the Phoenix comic they produce. David told us about an intriguing take on Robin Hood that he is publishing: The Cry of the Wolf is a dark novel by debut author Tim Hall with Robin and Marion both sounding like wild people of the woods. The office of DFB in Oxford is right next to my expensive dentist, so I have been offered succour and booktalk pre- or post-treatment. And for anyone wondering how David Fickling is operating as an independent publisher, separate from Random House, the message is clearly, "It's business as usual at Beaumont Street."
