If you have written a poem you think would appeal to 7-11-year olds, then why not enter the The Caterpillar Poetry Prize 2022? The prize is open to anyone over 16, and the poem can be on any subject.

A prize of €1,000 is given to the best poem, chosen by our judge Naomi Shihab Nye, the author of numerous books of poems for adults and children. Her honours include awards from the International Poetry Forum, the National Book Critics Circle Lifetime Achievement Award and four Pushcart Prizes. In 1988, she received the Academy of American PoetsThe website of the wonderful Academy, which was founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry. Any poet or poetry lover would find it worth a visit.' Lavan Award, judged by W. S. Merwin. She served as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets from 2010 to 2015, and is currently the Poetry Foundation's Young People's Poet Laureate.

The winning poem will feature in the summer 2022 issue of The Caterpillar.

The BBC National Short Story Award 2022

Winner £15,000 plus 4 shortlisted authors £600

The BBC National Short Story Award with Cambridge University (NSSA) and BBC Young Writers' Award with Cambridge University (YWA) opened for submissions at 9am on Thursday 13th January 2022.The BBC National Short Story Award is one of the most prestigious for a single short story, with the winning author receiving £15,000, and four further shortlisted authors £600 each. The stories are broadcast on Radio 4 and published in an anthology by Comma Press.

Enter a story of no more than 8,000 words.

PFD Queer Fiction Prize 2022

Anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ and who is un-agented and in the process of writing a piece of fiction is eligible to enter. No entry fee
Prize: 
Three category winners will receive representation at PFD and guidance for completing their novel

PFDRepresents authors of fiction and non-fiction, children's writers, screenwriters, playwrights, documentary makers, technicians, presenters and public speakers throughout the world. Has 85 years of international experience in all media. PDF now have a POD section. Some good advice for those seeking a representative. are running a Queer Fiction Prize in 2022 for new LGBTQIA+ writers to find emerging talent. Winners will be signed to PFD and supported in writing to the end of their novels. There are three separate categories for Adult, YA and Children's fiction, and judging alongside the agents will be two PFD authors.

Adult Fiction Prize:

Judged by Okechukwu Nzelu and agent Cara Lee Simpson. Accepting fiction samples for upmarket and literary fiction across all genres. Applicants are asked to submit a three-chapter sample and synopsis. Works may be finished or in-progress.

YA Fiction Prize:

Judged by E. Latimer and agents Silvia Molteni and Lucy Irvine. Accepting YA fiction samples across all genres. Applicants are asked to submit a three-chapter sample and synopsis. Works may be finished or in-progress.

Children's Fiction Prize:

Judged by E. Latimer and agents Silvia Molteni and Lucy Irvine. Accepting middle grade (aimed at readers aged 8-12) and chapter books (aimed at readers aged 6-8) fiction samples across all genres. Applicants are asked to submit a three-chapter sample and synopsis. Works may be finished or in-progress.

Eligibility Criteria:

Anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ and who is un-agented and in the process of writing a piece of fiction is eligible to enter. Submissions do not necessarily have to be about LGBTQIA+ experiences as long as the writer identifies as such, though we are especially interested in stories with LGBTQIA+ characters or themes.

Works do not need to be complete as the prize will be representation at PFD and support in writing to the end of your novel.
