Open to any poet from across the world aged 17 or over at the time of entering £7 for your first poem, and £4 per poem thereafter. Members of The Poetry Society can enter a second poem for free

First Prize £5,000 with 9 other cash prizes

Now in its 40th year, the National Poetry CompetitionAnnual poetry prize run by the UK-based Poetry Society established in 1978; accepts entries from all over the world; over 10,000 poems submitted each year is open for entries! Judged by Kei Miller, Kim Moore and Mark Waldron, there are 10 cash prizes, including a first prize of £5000.

Previous winners have had their work featured in national newspapers, literary and poetry festivals, and in The Poetry SocietyLively and well-presented UK site supporting poetry with 4,000 members internationally and some thoughtful content. www.poetrysociety.org.uk's quarterly journal The Poetry Review. For many, the prize has proved an important career milestone; winners follow in the footsteps of Tony Harrison, Jo Shapcott, Colette Bryce and UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, and many more. For your poem, it might be the start of an astronomical journey.
