The Caterpillar Poetry Prize is for a single unpublished poem written by an adult for children. Anyone can enter the competition - from anywhere in the world - as long as the poem is original and unpublished.

We are delighted to announce that Chrissie Gittins will judge The 2018 Caterpillar Poetry Prize. Chrissie's first two collections of poetry for children were shortlisted for the CLPE Award and three were PBS Choices for the CPB. Her poems have been animated for Cbeebies TV and are widely anthologized.

‘Chrissie knows just what words can do: she makes them dance, sing, sit still for a moment and then leap across the page with joy!' Ian McMillan

The winning poem will feature in the summer 2018 issue of The Caterpillar.

John Hegley said of last year's winner, 'Auntie Aggie' by Janet Turner, ‘The story flies straight and trusted and there are many incidents of delight - and ‘bum' and ‘pants' seemed necessary, not merely decorative.'

HOW TO ENTER

The Prize is open to anyone (over 16), as long as the work is original and previously unpublished.

The entry fee is €12 per poem, and you can enter as many poems as you like.

The winning poem will feature in the summer 2018 issue of The Caterpillar. Commended poems may also be published in the same or subsequent issues.
