The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2011

100 winners (85 Commendations and 15 Overall Winners)

Deadline: 31 July 2011

 No entry fee

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, run by the Poetry Society, is the top UK award for young poets aged 11-17. Each year 100 winners are selected by a team of high profile judges, and receive their awards at an annual prize-giving event on National Poetry Day.

Last year was a record year - with a staggering 20,000 poems entered from the UK and worldwide. Also last year, the Foyle Foundation secured the future of the competition until 2013, with a generous commitment to a further three years’ funding.

The 15 Overall Winners attend a week-long intensive residential Arvon course or receive a poetry residency at their school followed by distance mentoring (age dependent), and have their poems published in the yearly Foyle Anthology.

The competition is free to enter and writers must be aged 11-17 on the closing date of the 31st July 2011 to submit – see full rules on the website www.foyleyoungpoets.org.
