The joy of self publishing

Some years ago I read a couple of self-published memoirs written by friends who had served in the colonial service in the dying days of empire: their experiences were very different from the official history of colonial administration, and I realised that the history we were taught at school, Kings and Queens and battles and dates, had little to do with the lives of the ordinary people who make up our society. It is our lives that together are the real history, and now technology, in the form of self-publishing, has enabled us to tell our own stories in our own way.
