BookBrunch - On being a self-published author of printed books

Setting up my own self-publishing "company" and acquiring my own pool of ISBNs provide other benefits. First, it's about control. Allowing a publishing services company to assign my book one of their ISBNs means I'm not the publisher, they are. They get listed as the publisher with any distributor, and all enquiries going to them. Further, if I use a POD publishing services company, having them listed as the publisher can mean my book is perceived as a poor quality vanity project. Moreover, my options are limited should I wish to move to another POD printer or even print a small offset run. For me, a book by Edward Glover published by The Oak House sounds much less like a self-published vanity project by Edward Glover published by Edward Glover. My only mistake was not choosing to do this earlier in the series.
