Michael Bhaskar argues that claims of an end to growth in ebook sales may be misleading.
If one issue has dominated the discussion around ebooks for the last 12 to 18 months, it's the question of the ebook plateau.
It goes like this: for several years ebook sales were, across the board, extremely strong. Most publishers had triple-digit growth figures for their ebook lists in 2011-2013. Kindle was powering ebook consumption, backed by a huge Amazon marketing budget and a series of price promotions favourable to publishers. Readers were making the shift to ebooks, many of them as a result of receiving Kindles as Christmas gifts. Putting the lie to the argument no one would read ebooks on the beach, e-readers became a common sight beach- and pool-side around the Med.
