The Ginkgo Prize for Ecopoetry is a major international award for poems embracing ecological themes.

The first prize is £5,000, second prize is £2,000 and third prize is £1,000, with an additional £500 prize for the ‘Best Poem of Landscape' sponsored by the AONB family. In addition the winner will receive a residency (location to be confirmed).

Open to all poets of 18 and over from all over the world. Poems don't need to address a specific theme, but should in some way - thematically, structurally, linguistically or formally - investigate ecology, the environment, or the relationship between human culture and the natural world.

The judges are Camille T Dungy, Anna Selby and Sara Hudston

The Prize aims to highlight the role poetry can play in raising awareness, gaining insight, and provoking concern for the ecological imperatives of our time.

2021 Manchester Writing Competition

The Manchester Writing Competition offers the UK's biggest literary awards for unpublished work, offered by the country's most successful writing school. The Competition was established in 2008 by Carol Ann Duffy (UK Poet Laureate 2009-19) and has awarded more than £195,000 to writers. Each year two £10,000 prizes are awarded: the Manchester Poetry Prize for best portfolio of 3-5 poems and the Manchester Fiction Prize for best short story up to 2,500 words. Designed to encourage and celebrate new writing across the globe, the competition is open internationally to new and established writers.

Poetry Prize: £10,000

£10,000 prize for the best portfolio of three to five poems (maximum combined length: 120 lines). Open internationally to new and established writers aged 16 or over (no upper age limit).

The Selfies Book Awards UK 2022

Authors who have self-published adult fiction, children’s books or adult memoirs/autobiography in the UK between January and December 2021. Entry fee: £30 per title to include a six-month subscription to Bookbrunch
Prize: 
£750 cash prize for each category plus other prizes

Now in its fourth year, the 'hugely popular' Selfies book awards - powered by UK trade journal BookBrunch - have opened and will again reward three categories of self-published books: adult autobiography/memoir, adult fiction and children's books.

Sponsored by IngramSpark® and supported by the London Book Fair and Nielsen Book, these awards recognise one of the fastest growing parts of the book market. Submissions are now welcomed, and the closing date will be Monday 3rd January 2022.

Shortlists will be announced at the end of February, and the Selfies Awards for 2022 in all three categories will be announced at the London Book Fair Author HQ in April next year.

All titles submitted need to have been published in English in the UK between January and December 2021. Entries will be accepted only from authors based in the UK who are predominantly or exclusively self-published - ie, where the author acts as the publisher/creative director.

Originally launched in the UK in 2018, the awards seek to uncover new talent and reward the very best self-published authors each year.The Selfies Book Awards are judged on the following criteria:

  • A fantastic story that entertains and delights the reader
  • A well produced book
  • An enticing cover and blurb that successfully addresses the target audience
  • An effective and creative marketing and publicity strategy that has the potential to achieve great sales

Prizes:

The winners in each category receive a cash prize of £750, a profile in BookBrunch, a winners certificate and other publishing opportunities and packages from our sponsors and supporters. Shortlisted authors receive free entry to the London Book Fair, and the LBF Author HQ.
