National Novel Writing Month
Wattpad and National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) are working together to offer a $2,000 (£1,243) prize to writers who complete a 50,000-word novel during November.
NaNoWriMo runs each year throughout November, encouraging people to write a complete novel in 30 days. This year, writers will be able to upload their stories onto the online writing community Wattpad, to be entered into a draw to win a cash prize. Wattpad is now an official sponsor of NaNoWriMo, and will be running blogs and forums for writers to share tips and offer encouragement.
More than 500,000 people from more than 100 countries are expected to attempt NaNoWriMo this year, with hundreds of events planned to help writers connect, teaming up with libraries and schools.
Grant Faulkner, executive director of NaNoWriMo said: "A significant reason so many people have become successful novelists in NaNoWriMo is because of the community of support we provide online and in live events around the world. By partnering with Wattpad, we're adding even more social features to what's usually a solitary activity, writing."
