Entry: 
Short stories should be a maximum of 5,000 words and poems a maximum of 42 lines, and the entry fee is £6 per submission. There is no age limit (the competition is for adults) and the subject matter is entirely open.
Prize: 
Winning stories and shortlist will all be read by leading London literary agents, and the top 13 stories will also be submitted to the National Short Story Prize, which is worth £15,000

V S Pritchett Memorial Prize

This prize offers £1,000 for the best unpublished short story, together with publication in The London Magazine.

New deadline 28 February 2007.

The Prize commemorates an author who is widely regarded as the finest English short-story writer of the 20th century.

It  is supported by Chatto & Windus, V S Pritchett’s publishers, and awarded by the Royal Society of LiteratureThis British site may seem rather formal (stated aim ‘to sustain and encourage all that is perceived as best whether traditional or experimental in English letters, and to strive for a Catholic appreciation of literature’), but has a lively series of lectures and discussions involving distinguished authors. Entry is restricted to writers from the UK and Republic of Ireland. Stories must be between 2,000 and 5,000 words in length.
