The Poetry Business Competition for a Poetry Pamphlet

Closing date: 31 October 2007

Winners receive publication of their pamphlet plus cash prizes

Entry fee: £24

Entrants should submit a collection of poems of between 20 and 24 pages

Judges: Poet Alison Brackenbury and Poetry Business editors Peter Sansom and Janet Fisher

The judges will select up to four manuscripts, to be published in pamphlet form as individual small collections.

Each winner will receive prize money of £250, plus 20 complimentary copies of their own pamphlet.

In addition, the Smith/Doorstop editors might ask a winner (or more than one) to submit a longer manuscript to be considered for a full collection. This would be part of their normal publishing programme, and there would be no contest involved.

This competition is widely regarded as a good starting-point for poets who are trying to get their work published. Details of last year's winners, one of whom, Judith Lal, has just had her Flageolets at the Bazaar chosen as the Pamphlet Choice of the Poetry Book Society.
