Services Pricing

WritersServices’ offer a quality service at a sensible price. The rates are competitive because we keep our overheads low. We provide you with access to top-level freelance editors through the WritersServices website.

Pricing

  • Check the pricing table or
  • Price conversion table for approximate dollar and euro prices.
  • In most cases our prices are based on the length of your manuscript, so, if you don't know this, you will need a word-count from your word-processor to work out what the service will cost.

  • Contract vetting has a standard fee (in most cases).

  • Copy editing and Self-publishing (word-to-page estimator) are calculated in relation to the word count.  All other services fall into a price-band, depending on the length.  All fees are payable in advance, unless otherwise specified under the individual services.

We are able to accept payment through our payment provider in sterling, American dollars, Australian dollars and the Euro, using most credit or debit cards.

The pricing information is also available in slightly more detail on the page dedicated to each service.

Reader’s Report

The Reader’s Report on fiction costs £100 if your manuscript is under 100,000 words, £120 for 100,000 to 150,000 words and £145 for 150,000 to 200,000 words.  On non-fiction we charge £110 for under 100,000 words, £130 for between 100,000 and 150,000 words and £160 for 150,000 to 200,000 words.

We will have to quote individually on longer manuscripts but the quote will be pro-rata.

Editor’s Report

The fee for the Editor’s Report on fiction is £150 for manuscripts under 100,000 words, £180 for 100,000 to 150,000 words and £210 for 150,000 to 200,000 words. On non-fiction we charge £170 for up to 100,000 words, £200 for 100,00 to 150,000 words and £230 for 150,00 to 200,000 words.

We will have to quote individually on longer manuscripts.  We also reserve the right to quote a higher fee if the job will be particularly complex.

Submission Critique Service

The fee for the Submission Critique Service is £90. This includes the synopsis or outline itself, sample chapters, your submission letter, if you wish, and any other material you may want to include up to a maximum of 10,000 words. In the case of this particular service the expertise required is greater than the reading time, which is why the fee is relatively high. This fee is payable in advance.

Children's Editorial Services

The Reader’s Report costs £80 for children’s work of up to 50,000 words.  We will have to quote individually on longer manuscripts.

The fee for the Editor's Report is £110 for manuscripts under 50,000 words, payable in advance. We will have to quote individually on longer manuscripts.

For Copy editing work for children we charge £.008 per word, with a minimum charge for up to 15,000 words of £120.

Scriptwriting Assessment

The Reader’s Report costs £140 and the Editor’s Report £250 on plays, scripts and screenplays up to a standard length of 50,000 words. If your manuscript is longer than this, we will have to quote you for the work.

Copy editing

Copy editing a manuscript is a demanding task and, since non-fiction is usually more taxing to work on, we charge more for copy-editing non-fiction manuscripts.  We will also need to quote a special fee if your manuscript needs a heavy copy-edit and it may cost slightly more if you would like the changes made on screen, or using the 'track changes' facility, which enables you to accept or reject individual changes.

On fiction we charge £.00535 per word, with a minimum of £267.50 (which is the fee for 50,000 words).  This means that an 80,000 word manuscript would cost £.00535 x 80,000 i.e.  £428. On non-fiction we charge £.006 per word, with a minimum  of £300 (the fee for 50,000 words). The fee for this service is payable 50% on placing of the order and 50% when the work is complete and before the manuscript is returned to you.

Proof-reading

Proof-reading is a meticulous task which needs the attention of a skilled proof-reader. We charge £.00335 per word for fiction and £.00385 per word for non-fiction. If your proofs need heavy correction or your book contains technical language and needs specialist proof-reading, we may need to quote you a higher fee, so please send the proofs initially for us to give you a quote.

The fee is payable before the work starts.

Editing

Our fee for the initial assessment of the Editing task is £50 for up to 100,000 words, £60 for 100,000 to 150,000 and £70 for 150,000 to 200,000 words. Non-fiction is harder to edit than fiction and will cost more. The charge for the Editing service itself will depend on the complexity and difficulty of the job, but is likely, for a manuscript of under 100,000 words, to be in the region of £170 for straightforward jobs and £210 for those which are more complex and for non-fiction.  On 100,000 to 150,000 words the charge would be between £210 and £250, depending on complexity.  On 150,000 to 200,000 words the scale would start at £250 and go up to £290.

Manuscript Polishing

Our non-returnable assessment fee is £50 for typescripts under 100,000 words, £60 for 100,000 to 150,000 words and £70 for 150,000 to 200,000 words. We will quote a fee after this assessment, but you are under no obligation to go ahead with commissioning the service at this stage if you don't want to.  The starting point for a Manuscript Polishing job on a manuscript of up to 100,000 words is likely to be in the region of £300, but it may well cost more if the work requires close attention.

Once the assessment is completed and the fee quoted to you, it is payable 50% on placing of the order and 50% when the work is complete and before it is returned to you. We will email you to say that the second part of the payment is due. Please bear in mind that working on screen is more time-consuming and that flagging up the changes takes even more time, so, if this is what you opt for, it may prove slightly more expensive.

Rewriting

Our fee for the initial assessment is £50 for up to 100,000 words, £60 for 100,000 to 150,000 and £70 for 150,000 to 200,000. The starting point for a Rewriting job on a manuscript of up to 100,000 words is likely to be in the region of £1500.  Bear in mind that this is highly skilled work and will require a specific quote which will take into account how difficult the rewriting will be and how long it will take.

Synopsis-writing Service

The fee for this new service depends on the length of your manuscript. On up to 100,000 words the fee is £170, on 100,000 150,000 words it is £190 and on 150,000 to 200,000 words we charge £210.

Contract Vetting

The fee for the Contract Vetting service is £110.  If your contract is particularly complex, we may need to quote a higher fee, but we will warn you of this so you can decide whether to proceed.
