An Author's View of the Amazon Used Books Controversy

'I wouldn't even have considered as a serious used-book source if I hadn't heard about its recent dispute with the Authors Guild - Books, like newspapers, are meant to be shared, passed on and mulled over by more than one reader; I consider dog-eared pages and margin scribbles reminders of all the other people who like to read. At the risk of cannibalizing the $293 in royalties that I earned last year, I don't think that steering readers away from affordable used copies is the way to solve the problems of the publishing industry. Let's keep the public libraries open, too.'
