Entry: 
The work must be unpublished and not be due for publication until at the earliest January 2007, and the author should be willing to give the British Council non-exclusive electronic rights for two years following publication, plus translation rights and other sub-rights to be confirmed. There is no limit on the length of pieces, but constraints of space mean that longer items will stand less chance of acceptance.
Prize: 
New Writing 14 will be published by Granta in September 2006

New Writer magazine Prose and Poetry Prizes 2006

You can enter a large range of work for different prizes: - Essays, articles, Interviews - covering any writing-related or literary theme in its widest sense up to 2,000 words. - Short Stories, Serials/Novellas - stories up to 4,000 words, serials/novellas up to 20,000 words on any subject or theme, in any genre (not children's). Previously published work is not eligible. - Single Poems and Collections - single poems up to 40 lines and collections of between 6 - 10 poems. Single poem entries must be previously unpublished; previously published poems can be included as part of a collection.
Prize: 
Cash prizes as well as publication for the prize-winning writers in The Collection - a special edition of The New Writer magazine each July
