Virus latest

The recent virus was good at faking the From part of the email address as well as creating addresses which do not exist. This has meant lots of people receiving warnings and creating unnecessary uncertainty.

This particular type of Internet attack started about three years ago. Despite all the experts knowing viruses can forge the From address, some old, or poor, antivirus software still sends an email to the sender giving a false warning.

The level of virus-generated email is down to .004% compared with the peak but it is still sufficient to make it advisable to withhold the mailing of the newsletter for another week.

The virus has caused some interruption to the web service for which we apologise.
