One Star under the Crescent Moon

Characterisation

• Allan Larsen. “…. a man struggling to find his own feet after the tragic death of his parents he is instinctively against the modern worlds strides towards amassing more and more wealth. He’s an interesting mix of timidity and sophistication. Slow to react and very analytical, he eventually decides to leave his birthplace, Denmark in an effort to distance himself from the past and to find himself. He doesn’t have any great expectations about the future until he meets Sherry. Old fashioned for a man of 25 years of age, his fear of loss has made him both possessive and judgemental and he’s resentful of any anybody that might jeopardise his relationship with Sherry. She loves to tease him about his overly cautious behaviour.”

•Sherry Cohen “ ….. an extremely attractive girl who constantly commands male attention and who’s uncompromising trust in them causes both her and Allan problems. From a wealthy family, materialism is paramount and money everything. Spoilt, but with a heart of gold, her good intentions are easily misused by some but she doesn’t take anything too seriously, accept for her own freedom and the freedom of others. Thinking never precedes her actions and she jumps into different situations with both feet and without fear, both fascinating and scaring Allan in equal measures.”

•Ahmed Rabboo “ ……motivated only by hate and revenge, he has carefully crafted his charm in order to achieve his ultimate goals through other people. Already considering himself a martyr, he will risk anything and everything in his pursuit of freedom from suppression and occupation. Ruthless but intelligent enough to devise and implement a plan to raise funds for weapons, his only weak point is his attraction to western woman and in particular Sherry. In the end though, everybody is dispensable in his eyes, including himself.

•Katalina Mendoza “….. is lost amidst the thousands of immigrants to New York and deserted by her partner, lonely. Friendly intelligent and outgoing she latches on easily to strangers and is more than happy to get involved in other peoples lives and problems without wanting anything in return except for company. An Artist, she is modest about her talents and reluctant to talk about herself unless pushed. Very supportive, she provides an excellent temporary partner for Allan and had he not met Sherry, would become his permanent girlfriend. Unlike Sherry she is sensitive, practical and perceptive.

•Joe Cohen “……… been there, done that and made a million by selling the t-shirt he always means well. However, serious ill health has pushed him into unrelenting hedonism with escort girls and a determination to live life to the limit whilst there’s still time. A burning desire to see his daughter Sherry married before he dies puts a lot of pressure on Allan, who likes to make his own decisions. Dogmatic, outspoken, racist and sexist he constantly challenges Allan’s ideological ideas, but the mutual love between Joe and his daughter forces Allan to compromise his own beliefs and value’s in order to keep both sides happy.
